Jon Daniels Strikes Again, Fortifies Rangers Roster
Not that there was any doubt among those Rangers fans who know the game of baseball, but Jon Daniels is pretty good at his job.
Daniels made two trades early Wednesday afternoon bringing back former Rangers catcher Matt Treanor from Kansas City for cash considerations and adding LHP Mike Gonzalez to the bullpen for a player to be named later.
The addition of Treanor to the roster allows Texas to play Mike Napoli everyday at first base and to shift Mitch Moreland to right field while Nelson Cruz is on the disabled list with yet another hamstring problem.
Gonzalez, a left handed specialist in Baltimore, gives the Rangers another option late in games against tough left-handed hitters. Gonzalez hasn't allowed a run since mid-July and in the month of August was not scored upon allowing three hits, zero walks and 15 strikeouts.
In other words, Jon Daniels has plugged two holes in the Rangers roster while giving up very little just in time for the stretch drive in September.
